Jamie Lee Curtis Walks Back Her Marvel Criticism
Hollywood’s royal scream queen and adored star, Jamie Lee Curtis, recently found herself knee-deep in a superhero-sized gaffe, following heavy critiques of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, unlike some of her on-screen roles, Curtis isn’t sticking around for the fall-out. Instead, she’s walked back into the sunlight repentant and wiser.
Getting her hands dirty in the pop culture controversy, Curtis had less than magic to say about the MCU in an MTV interview, pointing to the current phase as “bad.” She even side-eyed the 2022 rendition of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, suggesting it uncouthly cribbed notes from the indie darling, ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’. Imagine the audacity!
Backtracking the Blunder
In a plot twist, presumably after a heart-to-heart with her conscience (or publicist), Curtis took to good-old nebulous cloud X—formerly known as Twitter—branding her own comments as “stupid.” Much like a determined superhero rising from the ashes, she promised to “do better.”
Curtis went on to declare she reached out to Kevin Feige, boss-man of Marvel, personally putting an end to the rap battle-style face-off brewing in the virtual world. A resolution that trumps any third act: “I will no longer play in that mud-slinging sandbox of competition we call the internet.”
She also kissed goodbye to “the toilet paper promotion or game play that is designed for clicks not content.” You’ve got to admire the commitment.
Nailing the Balance
Curtis, not the traditional villainous type, has previously aired her unbiased views toward Marvel in a People interview, defending her stance as nothing personal against the comic book behemoth: “I’ve seen a lot of Marvel movies. What I was talking about is that ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ was a little movie that could, and [we] were able to tell a multiverse story that really touched people.”
The iconic actress believed a movie doesn’t need to be a Marvel product to stir emotions and present a spectacle. Pretty fair, right? In a world where cinema is often at the mercy of Nietzschean power structures, it’s heartwarming to see indies getting some love.
So, there you have it folks, Jamie Lee Curtis’ Marvel journey – a tale full of twists and turns, drama and redemption. At the end of the day, remember: everyone’s entitled to a misstep. Even Hollywood royalty.
