HBO Casts Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan in New Green Lantern Series
Max Lights Up a Green Lantern Series
Akin to a bright burst in the cosmic space, a significant series announcement was made by Max earlier this year. His creation, “Lanterns”, will spotlight the heroic efforts of Green Lantern members Hal Jordan and John Stewart, featuring them in a live-action series. Chris Mundy of Ozark fame takes the reins as the showrunner, teaming up with Damon Lindelof and Tom King to scribble the compelling scripts. In addition, a recent revelation from The Hollywood Reporter stated that Emmy-award winning actor, Kyle Chandler, has been pegged to play Hal Jordan. You might recognize Chandler from his arresting portrayal of Eric Taylor in Friday Night Lights.
A New Chapter for DC Heroes
The current wave of superhero renaissance is being helmed by filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, masterminds behind the DC Studios. This fresh approach to DC’s roster of iconic heroes appears to be packing some serious punch, with the first wave titled “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters”. According to the Hollywood insiders at THR, the series’ production is slated to begin in Atlanta as early as January, spreading its wings until June. If the stars align, the next San Diego Comic-Con in July might give us a glimpse of some tantalizing footage during DC Studios’ Hall H panel presentation.
Changing of Plans at the Studio
Circling back to 2020, Max had initially conceived a Green Lantern series developed by executive producers and writers Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim. Alongside them were seasoned producers Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden. However, with the structural formation of DC Studios, these plans underwent a strategic overhaul.
Fan Reaction and Speculations
Plunging into the vortex of social media, fan reactions to the recent announcements have generally been electric, notwithstanding some reservations towards Hal Jordan’s depiction as an older figure than in the comics. Alongside the contagious excitement over Kyle Chandler’s casting, buzz about other familiar characters making their appearance is also on the rise. With Nathan Fillion all set to debut as the fan-adored Green Lantern Guy Gardner in James Gunn’s forthcoming Superman film, one can only speculate on its potential connection to the series. Notably, the casting announcement for John Stewart’s character is eagerly awaited.
