Live-Action Adaptation for Oni-Goroshi Revenge Manga

Toma Ikuta to Star in Vengeful Thriller ‘Demon City Oni-Goroshi’ on Netflix

Get ready for a riveting tale of vengeance and intrigue as Toma Ikuta embarks on a gritty journey. Ikuta headlines the live-action adaptation of "Demon City Oni-Goroshi," inspired by Masamichi Kawabe’s gripping manga. Announced by Amuse and Digital Frontier, this cinematic spectacle premieres globally on Netflix on February 27.

A Tale of Injustice and Retribution

The story centers on Shūhei Sakata, portrayed by Ikuta, wrongfully accused of murdering his family. In an attempt to take his own life, he’s left profoundly changed—facing 15 punishing years in a prison hospital. Fate intervenes upon his release, paving the way for physical and personal recovery. Determined to exact revenge, he prepares to confront the sinister forces looming over his life.

An Enigmatic Cast of Characters

Shūhei’s adversaries are the notorious Kimen-gumi, puppeteers of the secluded town of Shinjō. Joining Ikuta is an ensemble cast that includes Matsuya Onoe, Masahiro Higashide, Masanobu Takashima, and Miō Tanaka. Onoe portrays Ryū Sunohara, an influential mayor with hidden ambitions, while Higashide embodies Kanta Fuse, a dubious security mogul intertwining dark family ties.

In the meantime, Takashima’s detective Kōtarō Shinozuka trails secrets within the Shinjō police. Tanaka’s Homare Takemoto emerges as a duplicitous figure in the local underworld. Sakata’s daughter, Ryō, is courageously played by Ami Tōma, adding a personal stake to his mission.

A Web of Alliances and Betrayals

Rounding out this intense drama, Tarō Suruga depicts Sakata’s old ally, Akira Fujita, while Mai Kiryū steps into the poignant role of Aoi, Shūhei’s late wife. Meanwhile, Naoto Takenaka looms large as Haruo Kawano, leading the feared yakuza. Takuma Otō takes on the role of Yoshihito Takigawa, a streetwise officer with clandestine operations.

Crafting this thriller is director and screenwriter Seiji Tanaka, promising to merge cinematic flair with narrative depth. His vision aims to capture the manga’s raw conflict and emotional undercurrents.

From Manga to Motion Picture

Kawabe’s manga made its debut in Nihon Bungeisha’s Manga Goraku magazine in July 2020. It concluded its enthralling saga recently in November. With the final volume set to entice readers on February 28, fans are already avidly anticipating this live-action rendition.

Stay tuned to experience this showdown of human spirit and cunning forces, as Shūhei Sakata’s odyssey of redemption unfolds onscreen.
