Rito Kohsaka’s "My Happy Marriage" Returns from Hiatus
In an eagerly anticipated move, the Gangan Online website thrilled fans by releasing a new chapter of Rito Kohsaka’s manga adaptation of "My Happy Marriage." This marks the end of an eight-month hiatus. The manga, based on Akumi Agitogi and Tsukiho Tsukioka’s light novels, paused in April. This break allowed Kohsaka to focus on compiling a new book volume.
A Tale of Misfortune and Magic
Set in the Meiji era, "My Happy Marriage" is a Cinderella-style romance with a twist of supernatural intrigue. Miyo Saimori, a girl scorned by her family, is sent to marry the powerful Kudo heir. Although born into a family with exceptional powers, Miyo has none and lives as a servant. Her cruel family casts her aside, considering her a burden. Yet, she must discover whether the Kudo household, rumored to be cold, offers more warmth than her own family ever did.
The manga first appeared on Gangan Online in 2018, captivating audiences since its release. Square Enix dropped the fifth volume in July, continuing Miyo’s dramatic journey.
Expanding the Universe
Agitogi and Tsukioka introduced their novel series in January 2019, captivating readers with its blend of romance and fantasy. Yen Press picked up the series, bringing it to a wider audience. Enthusiasts of the story have more to enjoy; the first season of the anime version premiered in July 2023, offering a visual feast across 12 episodes. Netflix joined the fray then, streaming the anime worldwide, expanding its fanbase further.
Eager fans won’t have to wait long for more. Season two of the anime makes its Japanese premiere on January 6, simultaneously hitting Netflix. The widespread appeal of this historical tale ensures it’s a treat for audiences across borders.
Transformation to the Big Screen
In 2023, the "My Happy Marriage" story transcended pages and screens, emerging as a live-action film in Japan. Released in March, the film swiftly claimed the #1 spot on its opening weekend. It sold nearly 480,000 tickets in just three days, raking in 654 million yen, equivalent to approximately $4.97 million. This success highlights the enduring impact of Miyo’s story, resonating deeply with audiences and reminding them of the power of love and resilience amidst adversity.
As fans dive back into the world of "My Happy Marriage," the blend of fantasy, romance, and heartache continues to captivate, offering readers and viewers an escape into its beautifully crafted narrative.
