Animated Series Max & the Midknights Set for October Debut
Author: August Tales
Nickelodeon, in 2021, revealed that they are developing an animated series inspired by the Max & the Midknights book series. Crafted by renowned author Lincoln Peirce, this highly-anticipated series arrives at the end of October.
Recently, excited viewers were also treated to the first trailer. This, combined with an official press release, teased an alternate world of fantasy and heart.
A Kingdom of Quests and Quirks
Max & the Midknights, Nickelodeon’s spark of CG-animated brilliance, steps out into the world on Wednesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT). The trailer, along with sparkling key art and voice cast announcements followed.
This tale follows 10-year-old Max. Together with her newly discovered friends, she undertakes the mission to rescue the Kingdom of Byjovia from looming threats.
Meet the Inhabitants of Byjovia
The debut episode, aptly named “Welcome to Byjovia”, introduces viewers to Max. This medieval lass dreams of knight duties and vanquishing dragons but life has other plans. A troubadour’s apprentice alongside her Uncle Budrick, Max encounters a thief which sends their paths veering towards Byjovia.
What they find, though, isn’t what Uncle Budrick remembers. As the new episodes unfold every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT, so do the mysteries of Byjovia.
The Motley Midknights
Blu del Barrio from Star Trek: Discovery voices Max, a determined and courageous young heroine. SNL’s Melissa Villaseñor is Millie, the magical, eternally optimistic member of the gang. Simon, Millie’s streetwise and oft-sardonic sidekick, is voiced by Zeno Robinson (Transformers: EarthSpark). Meanwhile, the group’s brainiac with a photographic memory, Kevyn, is voiced by Caleb Yen (Beyblade X). Together, this quirky quartet seems to conquer whatever they set out to do.
Friends & Foes
Jeremy Rowley (iCarly) lends his voice to Uncle Budrick, while Gary Anthony Williams (Central Park) brings to life Mumblin, a retired magician who guides our heroes. Brian Stepanek (The Loud House) voices King Gastley, the nefarious ruler of Byjovia, while India de Beaufort (It’s Pony) eerily voices Fendra, his dark sorceress ally.
Songs, Sorcery and Standoffs
Throughout the series, Max and her squad tackle quests and belt out catchy music numbers. With a usurper on Byjovia’s throne, Max is tasked with the challenge to restore justice. Together with her friends and Uncle Budrick, her spirit never falters, no matter the trials.
Behind the Magic
Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank produces the series. Lincoln Peirce, and Jane Startz (Ella Enchanted) overlook the project as executive producers. Sharon Flynn (All Hail King Julien) and David Skelly (Toy Story 2) co-executive produce. Claudia Spinelli, Nathan Schram, and Stephanie Alpert supervise the development and production at Nickelodeon.
As autumn leaves fall, expect to be swept into a fantastical world of knights, magic, and adventure. Brace yourselves – the Midknights are coming.
