DC Universe Projects in Development: Mixed Reactions to ‘Lanterns’ Casting Choices
Written by August Tales
Unveiling the DC Universe
The DC Universe is a hive of activity under the stewardship of James Gunn and Peter Safran. Premiering in 2025, the animated series Creature Commandos and Superman are eagerly anticipated. Meanwhile, multiple live-action DC character shows are in the pipeline.
Spotlight on ‘Lanterns’
One show stealing the limelight is ‘Lanterns’. It zeroes in on the adventures of three significant Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner. Nathan Fillion is already on board as Guy Gardner. Uncertainties remain, though, with building buzz about a prospective younger John Stewart and a seasoned Hal Jordan.
Casting Shrouded in Controversy
Recently, purported negative feedback from fans led to Josh Brolin turning down the role of Hal Jordan. Now, it seems Emmy-winning actor Kyle Chandler might land the gig.
Kyle Chandler in Negotiations
Chandler is often celebrated for his roles in Friday Night Lights and Bloodline. His film credits include King Kong, Super 8, and several installments of the Godzilla franchise. The actor’s talent is paramount, but his age, 59, stirs controversy. Detractors see the choice as a “cheap” tactic that raises suspicions over the quality of casting, costumes, and locations in Gunn’s DC world.
Fan Outrage over Casting Choice
Once again, the fan base is showing their displeasure. Social media is swirling with comments criticizing Chandler’s potential casting due to his age.
Rumors about Hal Jordan’s Fate
The buzz surrounding Hal Jordan has led to speculations about the character’s future. Based on the age of the actors considered, it’s possible Hal isn’t destined to be the primary Lantern in the DC Universe. Perhaps John Stewart will steal that spotlight. Some envisage Hal’s retirement or death in the show’s finale.
