Darkseid seizes control over Spectre’s power, resulting in an enormous surge in his capabilities. Thus, he storms the Justice League Watchtower. The main spectacle of his onslaught, though, is his face-off with his arch-nemesis, Superman.

Bitter Rivalries Make for Epic Showdowns

The enduring animosity between Superman and Darkseid is well-known. What unfolds during this showdown, however, is unexpected. Employing Zatanna’s magic, Superman separates Darkseid and the Spectre. Seizing this opportunity, Superman appears to demolish Darkseid, marking another theoretical defeat for this sinister alien overlord. This feels eerily like a callback to the ‘Final Crisis’ in which Darkseid was defeated by a musical note.

Escaping Death and founding a Universe

Despite this seeming annihilation, Darkseid survives. In fact, he goes on to create an entirely separate universe where he reigns supreme – the Absolute DC Universe. His near-death experience caused a ripple in space and time, accessible only to Booster Gold.

The story, unquestionably, is gripping. The author, Scott Snyder, revealed his vision behind it; “What we came up with, along with a bunch of great creators is that, during the events of Absolute Power, Darkseid starts to realize that something has always been missing. This revelation instigates a quest bringing him into direct conflict with the new, fortified Justice League led by Superman. Their collision is set to reshape the DC cosmology.”
