Tank Girl and SNL Stars Join NCIS Prequel Cast…

“NCIS: Origins Bolsters Cast with Lori Petty and Bobby Moynihan”

NCIS: Origins Gets More Star Power

CBS’ upcoming prequel series, NCIS: Origins, is beginning to round out its cast in preparation for its fall debut. Making recent headlines over at Deadline, Lori Petty, known for her turn as Tank Girl, and Saturday Night Live veteran Bobby Moynihan have been added to the roster. Petty will be stepping into the shoes of the assistant medical examiner while Moynihan will be incorporating his comedic flair as a lead forensic analyst. This informative tidbit was confirmed during Saturday’s Television Critics Association panel for NCIS: Origins, attended by franchise heartthrob Mark Harmon, who has a two-pronged role in the prequel series as the voice of older Gibbs and one of the executive producers.

Dryly referring to her eponymous role in the 1995 sci-fi film, Tank Girl, from director Rachel Talalay, Petty also boasts credentials from Netflix’s hit series Orange Is the New Black. Her recent screen time consists of appearances in the Station Eleven series along with film roles in A Deadly Legend, The Survivalist, and the ominously named You’re All Gonna Die.

Moynihan, on the other hand, made a splash between 2008 and 2017 as a household name on Saturday Night Live. He was also seen in TV shows like Me, Myself & I and Mr. Mayor. Not just a live-action star, Moynihan lends his distinctive voice to a variety of animations, including DuckTales, Star Wars Resistance, Star Trek Lower Decks, Monsters at Work, and the Inside Out movies. His recent cinema sightings included cameos in John Krasinski’s IF and Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted.

Diving into NCIS: Origins

NCIS: Origins features actor Austin Stowell stepping into younger shoes of Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, originally portrayed by Mark Harmon for the first 19 earth-rotating, NCIS seasons. Kyle Schmid is onboard playing young Special Agent Mike Franks, previously acted by Muse Watson. Tyla Abercrumbie, Mariel Molino, and Diany Rodriguez are also part of this star-studded cast.

As for the character trajectory, this will be a different version of Leroy Jethro Gibbs than audiences have been familiar with in the NCIS world. “This is Gibbs dealing with the loss of his wife and child. This is not the Gibbs that is ‘put together,’” Stowell stated, painting an image of a broken man finding his identity. And trust, it seems, is in short supply, as Harmon delivered a cryptic two-word advice to him: ‘trust yourself.’”

The curtains on NCIS: Origins rise on Oct. 14, 2024, on CBS. For fans of the original series, it’s an opportunity to journey back in time and explore the roots of their favorite characters. For those new to the franchise, it’s a thrilling introduction to a world of intrigue, drama, and a dash of dry wit.
