Legendary Hires Writer for Follow-Up to “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” in MonsterVerse

Are you a fan of the MonsterVerse? If so, get excited because there’s more epic monster action coming your way! Legendary has announced that a follow-up to this year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is in the works, and they’ve brought on writer Dave Callaham to pen the script.

Dave Callaham, known for his work on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is no stranger to crafting thrilling and engaging stories. He actually contributed to the story for the first film in the MonsterVerse, Godzilla, so fans can expect some quality monster mayhem in the upcoming sequel.

While director Adam Wingard, who helmed both Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong, has not yet been confirmed for the director’s chair, Legendary is reportedly keen to have him back after the success of the previous films. However, Wingard is currently focused on his next project, A24’s Onslaught, which is set to start filming this fall.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has already been a box office hit, earning over $189 million in the United States and more than $548 million worldwide. The film is the second-highest grossing movie of 2024 so far, following behind Dune: Part Two. With such impressive numbers, a sequel was inevitable.

The MonsterVerse kicked off in 2014 with the reboot of Godzilla, and has since introduced Kong in Kong: Skull Island and pitted the two iconic monsters against each other in Godzilla vs. Kong. In addition to the films, Legendary also produced a MonsterVerse TV show, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which premiered on Apple TV+ last year.

So, get ready for more monster-sized excitement as the MonsterVerse continues to expand with Dave Callaham at the helm of the next Godzilla x Kong film. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling cinematic universe!
