Marvel Almost Fired Frank Grillo Multiple Times
By August Tales
It’s safe to say Frank Grillo, DC Universe lead and Creature Commandos star, has felt Marvel’s burn. Their firm grip on project secrecy is well-known around the block. Grillo, who previously found himself entangled in the intricate web of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, confesses to having nearly lost his MCU gig due to slip-ups.
In a recent conversation with Comicbook.com, Grillo revealed his reluctance to share details of his current role as Rick Flag Sr. in DCU. His past run-ins with Marvel have taught him a lesson. They almost gave him the boot several times – all thanks to revealed secrets. “To keep out of trouble, I’ve learned to stay silent,” Grillo commented humbly. “My knack for truth-telling has almost seen me sacked from Marvel a whopping 36 times. Now I just plead the fifth!”
Crossing Over from MCU to DCU
As an MCU notable, Grillo played Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones. We first met him in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Then came his stint in Civil War, another Captain America sequel. His final bow in the MCU was in Avengers: Endgame. However, he swapped sides to the DCU last year. He joined Creature Commandos as Rick. The series is one of five Max DCU shows in Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
Grillo in Animation and Live Action
In Creature Commandos, Grillo’s Rick comes alive in animation. Together with members of the black-ops team, Rick embarks on missions for Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis). Among his costars are David Harbour, Maria Bakalova, Steve Agee, Sean Gunn, Zoë Chao, and Alan Tudyk.
Grillo is set to star in live-action in Peacemaker Season 2 as Rick, facing off against John Cena’s titular character. Rumours also swirl about his return to the DCU’s first film, Superman, alongside David Corenswet’s Man of Steel.
Premiere Details
The first trailer for Creature Commandos dropped at San Diego Comic-Con in July. The series comprises seven episodes, all penned by James Gunn. Creature Commandos will premiere on Max on December 5th.
