Yet, this accommodating partner sometimes plays hard to get, just to stir up the pot in this idyllic pasture.

To The Mines We Go!

As farmers dabble with a good blend of mining and perhaps a dash of hoarding treasures, clay lays enthroned among the essentials. Perhaps an inner Chippendale prompts them as visions of sprucing up their farm dance in the mind. But here, the clay gods test their mettle, keeping their bounty beyond the easy reach of purchase from Robin, Clint, or the Traveling Cart. By venturing north to unlocked Ginger Island’s Dig Site, players can harvest Clay Nodes that yield 2 or 3 clays each. But if you strike it lucky with Vincent’s shop during the Desert Festival, the humble Calico Egg can fetch you 20 clay pieces.

In a strange twist, Stardew Valley’s citizens collectively detest clay, penalizing attempts at a clay gift with a 20 points friendship drop!
