In “Spooky” Adventures, Amanda Deibert and Cat Staggs Show Their Creepy Side
Welcome, comic fans, to the spook central. Just when we thought the season of scares couldn’t get any scarier, along swooped in The Powerpuff Girls with a Halloween Special. Handcrafted by the nefarious minds at Dynamite, this eerie delight is prepped to hit the stands on October 23 – just in time to pumpkin-spice your Halloween plans. Penned down by the enchanting quill of Amanda Deibert (that very one from Darkwing Duck’s fame) and illustrated by the phenomenal Cat Staggs (the one who gave Wonder Woman her ’77 makeover), this 40-page terror-filled treat is up for grabs as we speak.
To add a dash of exquisite sugar and a sprinkle of artistry to this already tantalizing recipe, Trish Forstner and Silvia De Ventura rejigged their leviathan canvases, joining Staggs to create the covers.
The masterminds behind this stygian extravaganza exchanged some words about this fearsome endeavour with The Beat.
The Spooky Behind-The-Scenes
When Deibert was probed about the genesis of this story, her love for the inspiring holiday – Halloween – came into limelight. She hinted at how Buttercup tries to conjure a horror comic within a horror comic, pushing her and Cat’s boundaries to unchartered artistic territories.
As for what makes Powerpuff world an exciting playground, Deibert confessed to her adoration for the lovely Powerpuff girls and the villains. Staggs chimed in, gloating about finally being able to draw for a franchise she has cherished for eternity.
And here’s the cherry on top – no prerequisite reading required! Deibert ensures that this comic is a standalone escapade, notwithstanding, she recommends devouring them all for profound hilarity and thrill.
The Villains and the Favorites
As for the new addition to the infamous rogues’ gallery of PPG, Deibert, unfortunately, offers no new names. However, she promises an unexpected portrayal of some familiar villains.
The pot of favourite moments was stirred and unsurprisingly, for Deibert, the ones where we get pulled out of one story and straight into another bagged the crowing glory. Mark her words, the ending is a brilliantly knitted masterpiece.
Staggs, on the other hand, was smitten by the Easter eggs hidden in the narrative and mentioned that the Mojo Jojo pages were a riot to create.
So there you have it folks, Powerpuff girls are all prepped to knock on the doors of your imagination this Halloween with their uniquely creepy comic. Prepare to be bewitched!
