Meet Tessarion: The Unique Blue-Fire Dragon of House of the Dragon

Spoiler Alert!

Welcome, good lords and ladies, to our modest homily on House of the Dragon’s exciting and action-packed finale of Season 2. Whilst one might think our tale revolves around mere cinders and ashes, upon closer scrutiny you will find it’s the ethereal wisp of cerulean smoke we follow. Yes friends, we chase the trail of Tessarion, the cobalt-blue wonder swooping across our screens. So pour yourself a goblet of Dornish red, and join us on an intimate exploration of our new ancient, wonder – the dragon Tessarion.

Summoning the Storm: Tessarion Arrives

Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen has certainly been busy bolstering the ranks of her fiery legions. Yet, she may need to cast a wary eye on the Greens, who have a surprise or two up their velvet sleeves. During the Season 2 finale, like a coup de theatre, we meet not one but two dragons. The real showstopper though is the petite blue bombshell named Tessarion circling above the Hightower army on the march to King’s Landing. This vision in cobalt is the intellectual property of a certain Prince Daeron Targaryen, who may just hold the key to Season 3.

Something Blue: Unveiling Tessarion’s Uniqueness

Tessarion makes a brief yet memorable debut in House of the Dragon’s cinematic universe. Her diminutive size is made up for in uniqueness, be it her magnificent cobalt scales or her copper-toned wings that have earned her the revered nom de guerre ‘the Blue Queen.’ But if you thought her visual appeal was interesting, brace yourself for diminishing allusions to “fire and blood”.

Tessarion breaks all dragon norms by spewing blue fire – a jaw-dropping spectacle of deadly beauty. Previous notions of dragon fire being yellow or orange are quite literally blown up with this revelation. Indeed, other dragons might cry bloody blue at Tessarion’s exceptional flames, which are as formidable as they are visually striking.

Rescheduled Debut: Tessarion’s Delayed Appearance

Tessarion’s delay in the series raises many questions. We understand Prince Daeron Targaryen was diverted to Oldtown, being the youngest and fourth child of King Viserys and Alicent Hightower, and therefore last in sack race for the Iron Throne. But he managed to bond with Tessarion nonetheless, sparking curiosity around their delayed reunion.

Season 2’s Episode 7, “The Red Sowing,” finally lifts the veil on Tessarion’s whereabouts. It appears that Daeron and Tessarion have quite literally caught up with the marching Hightower army, adding an intriguing variable to the approaching siege of King’s Landing.

Riding into Season 3: Daeron and Tessarion

Despite the void in casting news for Season 3, it’s a safe bet that Daeron, the elusive and well-mannered Targaryen, will make his appearance alongside his well-behaved dragon. Interestingly, Tessarion is noted for her swift and nimble flying skills which could surprisingly tilt the scales in a looming battlefield situation.

The expectancy is high for our Blue Queen to display her azure flame’s real might in the upcoming battles, and maybe who knows, even quell the politics of Tumbleton within her blue inferno. Until then, be sure to catch House of the Dragon’s fiery Season 2 on Max while you stoke your hearths in anticipation for the glacial yet combustible Tessarion’s return!
