A New Animated Treasure
The series, based on Roye Okupe’s celebrated graphic novel Iyanu: Child of Wonder, is the brainchild of Lion Forge Entertainment. Okupe doubles as the executive producer and showrunner, deftly transferring his vivid creation to the screen. Accompanying him on this creative journey are Paula Gammon Wilson, directing voice and casting, Darnell Johnson, steering the episodic direction, and Brandon Easton, weaving the storyline.
During the NYCC ’24 panel, these creative visionaries shared their insights and showcased the dazzling new trailer. Excitement buzzes as viewers await immersion into Iyanu’s magical world. Drawing from rich Nigerian culture and myth, the series promises a fresh, fantastical narrative landscape.
Meet Iyanu’s World
At the heart of this saga is Iyanu, a teenage orphan deeply rooted in Yoruba history and arts. Her life takes an unexpected turn after a shocking discovery. To her surprise, ancient, divine powers awaken within her, hidden gifts unseen since the Age of Wonders.
Thus begins Iyanu’s extraordinary journey, joined by fellow teenagers Biyi and Toye. Together, they unravel sinister mysteries threatening their homeland. Through daring adventures, Iyanu unearths secrets about her lineage and her role in preserving the world’s balance.
A Stellar Voice Cast
Behind the vibrant characters are talented voices bringing Iyanu’s universe to life. Serah Johnson voices the lead, Iyanu, encapsulating the character’s strength and curiosity. Okey Jude lends his voice to Biyi, the unrestrained and spirited friend. Samuel Kugbiyi portrays Toye, the scholarly and insightful friend navigating challenges alongside Iyanu.
The series also features Adesua Etomi-Wellington as Olori and Blossom Chukwujekwu as Kanfo, Toye’s father. Stella Damasus adds depth as Sewa, while Shaffy Bello embodies Emi, the One Mother. Ike Ononye rounds out the ensemble, voicing Elder Alapani.
