With its rousing screenplay and John Cena’s smash-hit performance, it’s no wonder audiences ate up the first season like cake at a preschool birthday party. Now, set your timers for 2025. DC’s planning a major reboot, ready to launch faster than Superman off a skyscraper, with Cena’s Peacemaker front and center.

A Surprise from James Gunn

James Gunn, reportedly high on smiles and good vibes, took to social media like a cat to a laser pointer. He dropped a grenade of a post that has fans buzzing.

The post on X (which, in a former life, answered to Twitter) appears to be Gunn’s tribute to Peacemaker. After all, who wouldn’t want to celebrate the anniversary of their character’s debut? Naturally, Gunn chose to mark the occasion with a teaser from the second season’s set.

The first photo unveils the new helmet in all its glory. Cena looks ready to take on Season 2. The second snapshot takes us back to the original intro of Peacemaker from comic Fightin’ 5 #40, where the character first took the stage.

Punctuating the snapshots, Gunn said, “On this day, #Peacemaker aka Christopher Smith sparked into existence in Fightin’ 5 #40, back in 1966, thanks to Joe Gill and Pat Boyette. It’s as if @JohnCena was born to play this role.” Stirring up our anticipation, he added, “And hoo-boy, I can’t wait to show you what we’ve got brewing for @Peacemaker Season 2!”

Fresh off wrapping up filming for the David Corenswet-led Superman, Gunn turned his creative lens towards Peacemaker Season 2. Yet, fans still wait with bated breath for the official release announcement. According to dubious whispers, not all episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 will bear Gunn’s directorial fingerprint. It seems we’ll have to wait and see.
