Jarvis the Butler, Now a Brooklyn Resident…

Avengers Assemble #1: Jarvis’s Brooklyn Origins and the Return of Avengers Jackets

by August Tales

Rumblings are stirring in the Marvel Comics world as “Avengers Assemble #1” gets underway. The new issue, crafted by duo Steve Orlando and Cory Smith, hinges on a surprise revelation and a nostalgic throwback. As the primary Avengers embark on a mission, a secondary group assembles, prepped by the butler, Jarvis, for their time in the spotlight. The comic is carefully slotted within the current Marvel Blood Hunt continuity.

The Truth about Jarvis

Creating a stir among Marvel fans, Clint Barton, better known as Hawkeye, arrives to oversee the new Avengers recruits. In doing so, he unearths Jarvis’s real backstory — a shocker that until now has remained unspoken, yet deeply considered. The truth is, Jarvis the Butler wasn’t born an Englishman, but hailed from Brooklyn.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced us to Edwin Jarvis as Tony Stark’s loyal butler in “Tales of Suspense #59” back in 1964. His narrative arc had Jarvis as a former RAF member and champion boxer, who later served Howard Stark and Maria Stark in the US before his stint at the Avengers Mansion. This Brooklyn revelation hints that perhaps all this backstory was a fabrication. No clarifications about his alleged British military service have been provided either, making fans speculate further.

Avengers Revisited

“The Avengers Assemble #1” comes packed not only with surprises but also with a unique mix of characters. This includes Julie Power, She-Hulk, Wonder Man, Hercules, Living Lightning, and Night Thrasher. The blend of heroes rings similar to the nineties Avengers, bringing along with it an iconic style staple – The Avengers jackets.

Despite Hercules never donning one in the past, the Greek God seems to have warmed up to the idea. The nineties-style jackets make a confident comeback, thanks to the quintessential nineties hero, Night Thrasher.

The Return of the Jackets

The jackets, a trend we last saw around “Operation Galactic Storm” in the Bob Harras/Steve Epting era, make a stylish comeback. Half the Avengers squad were seen sporting jackets featuring the Avengers logo during this era. Now, courtesy of the Avengers Assemble series, these team-themed jackets have resurfaced, each issue graced with a variant jacket cover.

“Avengers Assemble #1” marks a novel chapter in Marvel’s canonical history, blending new story arcs with nostalgic elements. The new Avengers squad, Jarvis’s shocking revelation and the striking return of the jackets make for a thoroughly engaging read.

Fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating the unraveling of this narrative, primed for an indisputably exciting spin on Marvel’s Avengers.
