Chad Stahelski, the mastermind behind the high-octane John Wick franchise, is embarking on a fantastical journey. Teaming up with Basset Hound Distribution, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment plans to adapt Sebastien de Castell’s thrilling Spellslinger series. This move signals a fresh direction for Stahelski, shifting his focus from the chaotic streets to the enchanting world of magic.
Stahelski isn’t navigating this new venture alone. M. Raven Metzner, lauded for his work on Star Trek: Discovery and Elektra, will helm the project. Metzner is set to serve as both showrunner and writer. This one-hour action-adventure series promises to captivate audiences accustomed to de Castell’s six-book saga. The excitement doesn’t end there. Metzner joins a powerful production team alongside Stahelski, Jason Spitz, Alex Young, Michael R. Goldstein, and Alexandre Coscas.
A Magical Narrative Awaits
Spellslinger spins a tale around Kellen, a teenager in a world dominated by magic. Ironically, Kellen possesses none. His destiny takes a wild turn when he encounters a rogue adventurer from the enigmatic Argosi sect. Together, they face a mission to avert a war threatening to engulf the continent. The narrative brims with mysteries, magic, and unlikely companions like a talking squirrel cat. Spellslinger promises a unique blend of thrills and enchantment, sure to mesmerize fans of fantasy.
Stahelski’s involvement in Spellslinger adds another layer to his expanding portfolio of fantasy projects. Apart from this, he’s working on a remake of Highlander. This beloved ’80s film returns with Henry Cavill stepping into the iconic role of Connor MacLeod. Set to begin in January, production will bring the legend to life in the stunning landscapes of Scotland.
John Wick Expands his Universe
Stahelski isn’t abandoning his John Wick roots. His 87Eleven banner is developing “Under the High Table,” a new chapter in the John Wick saga for Lionsgate. Picking up after John Wick: Chapter 4, the series explores the repercussions of John Wick’s actions against the High Table. New characters emerge, challenging the old order while familiar faces cling to tradition.
Stahelski will direct the pilot, ensuring that the franchise’s signature style remains intact. Keanu Reeves rejoins the action as an executive producer, adding star power to the project. “Under the High Table” marks the beginning of a broader expansion for the John Wick universe. Another spinoff, “Ballerina,” stars Ana de Armas and will premiere next June. Set between Chapters 3 and 4, the film sets the stage for more assassination-fueled adventures. Reeves is set for a cameo, alongside Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick reprising their roles.
Fans eagerly anticipate the continuance and expansion of the John Wick narrative. Meanwhile, Stahelski’s dive into Spellslinger offers a fresh, magical experience capable of hitting all the right notes with audiences craving more fantasy on screen. When different realms collide, both fans of intense action and fantasy enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to.
