Justin Simien and Christopher Yost to Revise…

“Sci-Fi Comic ‘Heist’ to Become Film by Confluential Films”

Welcome to the intersection of audacious dreams and cinematic adventure where a planet full of criminals is deemed an attractive piece of potential real estate to a rogue group of thieves. Let’s step into the world of ‘Heist: Or How to Steal a Planet’.

The stalwart producer Tommy Oliver, whose exploits span the expanse of Confluential Films, a creatively potent and lauded Black-owned and Black-founded production company, is whipping up a new project. Turning their attention towards planetary proportions, the sci-fi criminally-themed comic under the banner of Vault Comics is to be transformed into a full-length cinematic spectacle.

Joining this inventive endeavor is the filmmaking maverick Justin Simien, known for his ventures into the intricacies of socially charged narratives with works like ‘Dear White People’ and ‘Haunted Mansion’. He’s now preparing to steer this stellar vessel as the director of ‘Heist’.

On the narrative front, Christopher Yost is shouldering the responsibility of penning the screenplay. Armed with a resume boasting of interstellar blockbusters such as ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, we’re looking forward to another thrill-ride tailored by Yost’s hands.

The bearing of this project will lie not solely on Oliver’s shoulders. Alongside him, an accomplice goes without saying – Wayne Horton, who introduced the project, is set to produce through his production agreement with Confluential Films.

In Simien’s own words, ‘How To Steal Planet’ has stirred up such a fervor in him that he is ready to go to intergalactic lengths to recreate this extraordinary comic world. He’s excited about the potential fusion of Culture Machine’s inventive prowess with Confluential Films’ storytelling brilliance to create a vibrant mix of afro-futurism and captivating plotlines.

Drawing its essence from the vibrant creativities of writer Paul Tobin and artist Arjuna Susini, ‘How to Steal a Planet’ unfolds on Heist – home to a jumbled horde of the galaxy’s most unscrupulous tenants. Faced with this accidental congregation of cosmic criminals, the Pan-Galactic government is clueless, but Glane Breld, our ambitious conman, and his gang, see an opportunity of magnanimous proportions – a planetary heist!

Excited about taking Glane and his crew to the silver screen, screenplay writer Yost tips his hat to Vault comics and applauds Paul and Arjuna for their original creation. In tandem with Oliver’s approval on the dynamo pairing of Simien and Yost to helm the adaptation, we can look forward to Confluential’s dedication to diverse narratives in its slate of tentpole films.

But of course, no mission of cosmic proportions can be accomplished without the right team supervising the enterprise – Liliane Bedford, the newly stationed SVP, Film & TV, will oversee this extraterrestrial project for Confluential Films. The executive production line-up includes Damian Wassel and F.J. DeSanto for Vault, and Simien with Kyle Laursen at the helm of Culture Machine.

As we await the cinematic transformation of ‘Heist: Or How to Steal a Planet’, brace for a cosmic ride into a world where planetary capers, rogue criminals, and afro-futuristic conmen align within the same frame.
