Netflix Cancels ‘KAOS’ After Only One Season
By August Tales
Netflix’s comedy, “KAOS,” doesn’t live to see Halloween
Kaos, in which Jeff Goldblum appears as the Ancient Greek god Zeus, began streaming on Netflix on August 29th, a mere six weeks ago. Truthfully, it’s far from sufficient time for any show to gather an audience. Especially when every episode is dropped all at once, effectively eliminating the chance to build momentum. Rather shockingly, this didn’t prevent Netflix from already yanking the critically acclaimed dark comedy off its platform. Indeed, after only one season, ‘Kaos’ got the axe.
Kaos creator’s plea to fans
Charlie Covell, the creator of Kaos, turned to Instagram. There, they pleaded with fans to keep the conversation going. They hoped audiences would appreciate the team’s hard work, even speaking directly to potential fans who hadn’t yet discovered the show. Undeniably, it’s another frustrating, premature cancellation for Netflix, discouraging viewers from investing in new shows.
‘Kaos’ slipped through the fingers of Netflix with a soft reception.
Early autumn saw the debut of ‘Kaos’, but it didn’t even make it to Halloween. Following lukewarm viewership, Netflix axed the show. According to their internal stats, ‘Kaos’ raked in 14.9 million views – while not a disaster, the numbers weren’t groundbreaking either. Even Jeff Goldblum’s star power couldn’t save it from a swift exit.
An untimely Netflix pattern
Regrettably, this cancellation isn’t surprising. Netflix has a track record of prematurely terminating even their best performing shows. This fickle behavior leaves viewers hesitant to commit to other new releases. As such, the predicament poses an off-putting cycle and, quite frankly, a disappointing business model.
As Netflix continues to leave viewers hanging, future shows could see a drop in viewership right off the bat. Trust in Netflix’s ability to nurture their new shows to full-term seems to be waning. Quite a conundrum, isn’t it?
So, what’s the moral of the story?
Beneath the fog of frustration, one question lingers. Did Kaos deserve its fate? Without the chance to watch it pre-cancellation, this question remains unanswered. Friends told me it was indeed a quality show, but what’s the point now? Netflix’s constant premature cancellations have left many viewers wondering why they should even bother. Ultimately, the entire fiasco suggests that Netflix’s approach to nurturing its shows might need a complete overhaul.
