Today, major players are buzzing over Lazarus Rising Games’ (LRG), the upcoming revamp to the 90’s legendary card game, OverPower. The revered game aims for a grand revival in late 2024. Powerhouse companies, Top Cow and Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. have set a partnership with LRG for the inclusion of their flagship characters. This will feature the likes of Witchblade, Darkness, Cyberforce, Tarzan of the Apes® and John Carter of Mars®.

Legendary Card Game OverPower Poised to Return

LRG aims to restore OverPower to its rightful, classic glory with their licensing deals. Formerly known as BMG & Associates, the core ownership of LRG involves successful professionals who grew up playing OverPower. They seek to place OverPower back at the core of the collectible card game market’s resurgence, winging in both old and prospective players. The new game rules promise smooth play, along with stunning artwork from top illustrators.

Reimagining OverPower: A Player’s Game to the Core

“Players making a game for players,” this is how Ronald Pozzi, co-founder and president of LRG, described it. They aim to create an authentic OverPower experience that appeals to players both old and new. The aim is to outshine the game’s previous standing while targeting an even greater spotlight. To bolster OverPower’s presence, the globally renowned Cartamundi will be taking charge of manufacturing the cards.

Assembling the Perfect Team and Plot for Overpower’s Revival

Adding substance to his company’s drive to reignite OverPower’s previous flame, Joseph Gagnepain, LRG’s co-founder and CEO, says they aim at satisfying the expectations of long-standing fans while inviting newbies to this unique experience. Notably, they have also scored a licensing deal with Top Cow, focusing on characters from their popular roster including Witchblade, Darkness, Cyberforce among others.

Thoughts from the Giants in the Game

Marc Silvestri, the founder & CEO of Top Cow, expressed his excitement over the relaunch of characters like Witchblade, Darkness, and Stryker, and assured that OverPower is on the right track. Matt Hawkins, the COO of the brand and an avid tabletop gamer, concurred, mentioning that the designs indeed captured the nostalgic feel it promises.

What’s in Store for OverPower’s Future?

LRG plans to debut many new aspects of OverPower, including offering two new sets earlier this year. A plethora of new material is also in the works for late 2025, with wide speculation on collaborations with more popular IPs. On the retail side, Doug Simms, owner of Heroes and Games, was optimistically impressed by the new OverPower set.
