Nova Series with Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica Influences Coming to Disney+

Marvel’s Nova: New Light amidst the Stars
So, you’ve heard of Marvel? Good. What about Nova? No, not Chevrolet’s iconic muscle car. Rather, the cosmically powered superhero in Marvel’s rich comic tapestry. Nova, known otherwise by his very Earth-based alter-ego, Richard Rider gained his awesome cosmic abilities from an alien species named the Nova StarCorps. And now, whispers have emerged that we may see a Disney+ series inspired by the hero.
It’s no secret. Marvel Studios’ honcho, Kevin Feige, dropped some tantalizing nuggets of information earlier this year. He confirmed that, yes, a Nova project is coming. However, we’ve got some cosmic-sized waiting to do; the show is still about three to four years off. Nonetheless, recent whispers from Marvel’s behind-the-scenes guru, Brad Winderbaum, offer some intriguing insights.
Superhero Meets Space Opera
Nova might sound like a space cowboy’s name – and rightly so. But, our teen hero from New York isn’t venturing into a galaxy far, far away. No, Winderbaum points toward Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica as the key influences. Picture that, a superb ensemble piece fueled by cosmic energy… Sci-fi fans, rejoice!
The idea’s not entirely foreign, though. Nova and his cosmic compatriots, the Nova Corps, popped up in Guardians of the Galaxy. Then things got, well, marvelously messy in Avengers: Infinity War when Thanos wreaked havoc on Xandar, home of the Nova Corps.
Such a cataclysm would provide the perfect springboard for a Nova series. Imagine a Nova Corps survivor stumbling upon Earth, passing the torch, or rather cosmic power, to young Rider. Perhaps there are more survivors? Such questions tease a narrative akin to Starfleet or Battlestar Galactica.
Remember the Corps
Turning the cosmic clock back to 1976, we find Richard Rider making his debut in The Man Called Nova #1. Armed with the Nova Force, Rider boasts flight, super strength, and potent energy blasts. Yes, it rings a bell somewhere between Spider-Man and DC’s Green Lantern. Not surprising, Rider quickly became a popular figure in Marvel’s comic universe, passing on his legacy to new Nova, Sam Alexander, in later years.
With an intergalactic storyline, a rich ensemble cast, and more than a hint of classic sci-fi, Nova is shaping up to evoke Trek-esque vibes and Battlestar-style drama. So, grab the popcorn and hold tight. It’s going to be one wild cosmic ride once Nova makes his grand entrance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Becoming a superhero has never quite been as stellar.
