By August Tales

The literary world is abuzz with excitement for the first round of Spring 2025 offerings. Among the flurry of upcoming releases, NBM Graphic Novels stands out with their diverse and compelling lineup.

Country Icon and Counterculture Chronicles

NBM’s Spring roster promises a graphic biography of country-western legend, Willie Nelson, a compilation of notorious true-crime tales, a chronicle of a pivotal event in Civil Rights history, a taste of punk rock’s genesis and evolution, and a portrayal of a trailblazing environmentalist.

“Willie Nelson: A Graphic History” penned by T.J. Kirsch and illustrated by various artists, is slated to hit the shelves in paperback format. Nelson’s journey from a small-town Texan child to a global country music icon is fascinatingly depicted in this graphic biography. The book’s illustrated chapters capture distinct epochs of his life – overcoming trials and tribulations, dealing with IRS issues, and surviving personal tragedies.

Up for release on January 14, the book is sized at 7 ½ x10, features 88 pages in black and white, and is reasonably priced at $14.99.

Monochrome True-Crime Mysteries

Transpiring alongside this biography is “A Treasury of XXth Century Murder: Compendium II” by Rick Geary. The book compiles four true crime stories from the 20th century, including the infamous Sacco & Vanzetti case and the mysterious Black Dahlia murder. Each tale is meticulously researched and narrated in Geary’s signature tongue-in-cheek style.

This murder anthology, too, will launch on January 14, with a price tag of $24.99.

Pioneers in Pursuit of Justice and Music

February and March are equally exciting with the publication of “Surrounded: America’s First School for Black Girls, 1832,” a historical yet crucial tale from the Civil Rights era, and “Punk Rock in Comics”, an overview of the punk rock genre’s evolution, respectively. The former takes a deep dive into Prudence Crandall’s charm school, which dared to educate Black girls long before slavery was abolished, while the latter offers an exhilarating ride through punk rock’s inception and influential women who broke barriers in the genre.

“Punk Rock in Comics” will retail at $27.99 following its March 18 release.

Understanding our Environment through a Pioneer’s Eyes

Closing the Spring roster is “John Muir: To the Heart of Solitude” by Lomig. Diving into the life of pioneering environmentalist John Muir, the book uncovers what drove him to establish the Sierra Club and become a flagbearer for America’s first national parks, making him one of the most esteemed environmental champions.

This inspiring biography, available in black and white hardcover format, will be released on April 15 for $19.99.

Look out for these enriching tales, bound to capture the interests of various readers in the early months of 2025. All prices are indicative and subject to change.
