Highlighting Marvel’s New Teen Heroes of 2025
By August Tales
Last year, the world of Marvel Comics was stirred when a fresh batch of teen heroes – inspired by legendary Marvel icons – showed up on variant covers. Their debut in actual comics followed in 2024 and now, their journeys and trials will be the rousing theme of 2025. They are destined to become the New Champions.
Hellrune, Liberty, Moon Squire, and Cadet Marvel Lead the Charge
The starting lineup of New Champions #1 consists of four heroes who first made their appearance in Spider-Woman. Their leader is Liberty, a power armor-clad flier capable of invisibility. Alongside her is Hellrune, who ominously tapped into Norse god magic upon turning thirteen. Next is Moon Squire, a recipient of blessings from an Egyptian god akin to Moon Knight. Last, but not least, Cadet Marvel identifies as a military brat – an energy powerhouse formed through an unexpected explosion. This dynamic quartet is setting the stage for Marvel’s next evolution.
Initially manipulated by Hydra as pawns in a grand scheme, the foursome snapped out of it, thanks to Jessica Drew. Instead of scattering, they decided to stick together. Their goal is to locate teenagers like themselves who require guidance. As they chart their own course, New Champions will chronicle their adventures within the Marvel Universe.
Marvel’s Historic Legacy of Teen Heroes Continues
Marvel has a rich history rooted in teen hero narratives, beginning with Peter Parker’s transformation into Spider-Man. Names like Kitty Pryde and Kamala Khan started from the same inexperienced yet idealistic origins. New Champions intends to follow this tradition but with a contemporary twist.
“I’ve yearned to pen a teen hero team saga my entire career,” says series writer Steve Foxe. “That phase of life, when self-identity is taking shape, becomes a story of epic proportions when mixed with Norse magic, supersonic punches, and accidental hell portals. The creative process of fabricating a cast from mere covers is unparalleled. I’m thrilled to present a new generation of Marvel heroes… and a few villains as well!”
Equally excited is the artist of New Champions #1, Ivan Fiorelli. He shares his enthusiasm: “The thrill lies in introducing these fresh faces to the Marvel Universe, thus opening an entirely new chapter. Each character has unique tales to share. Watching their visual evolution throughout the series adds to the excitement. My hope is that readers will take as much joy in reading our pages as I do in illustrating them.”
New Champions #1 will hit all comic shops on January 8, 2025, ushering in a new era of superheroes for a new generation of fans.
