A Glimpse into the Multiverse

It may not be Stephen Strange’s multiverse of madness, but the upcoming ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ film promises a mind-bending trip nonetheless. The movie’s latest trailer, succinct as it may be, drops what fans of Marvel comic lore would call a Deadpool Corps Easter egg – a crew of alternate versions of everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed, fourth-wall-breaking antihero: Deadpool.

Doppelgangers in Spandex: The Deadpool Corps

If your knowledge of Marvel comics confines to the mainstream stories or your Deadpool fandom doesn’t quite border on obsessive, here’s a friendly primer: the Deadpool Corps is a squadron of Deadpools hailing from different timelines. The team not only features our beloved red-suited rogue, but also some bizarre iterations like Dogpool, a Deadpool with canine characteristics, Headpool, the decapitated zombie head of Deadpool, Kidpool, and Lady Deadpool. The latter, also known as Wanda Wilson, is a Deadpool from an alternate timeline who appears – at least from the neck down – in the new teaser, sending fan speculation into overdrive.

Adding to the Cameo Bonanza

Lady Deadpool marks the latest in an increasing lineup of confirmed cameos and surprise appearances that the movie has up its sleeve. From Pyro and Sabretooth of the old Fox X-Men franchise to Jennifer Garner’s Elektra from Fox’s Daredevil and its subsequent spinoff, it’s clear that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is pulling out all the stops. And let’s not forget, these are just the characters we’re aware of now. If they’re already splashing out teasers and confirmations of these kickass crossovers, it hardly seems farfetched to expect a hatful of jaw-droppers come the film’s release.
