New Metroidvania Game: Not NSFW!

Inti Creates’ Newest Metroidvania Adventure: Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark

When Inti Creates announces a new game, it’s a must-add to my Steam wishlist. Known for their retro anime masterpieces like Gal Guardians and Blaster Master, they’ve done it again. On the horizon is Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark, releasing soon. Ahead of its debut, a demo is shaking up Steam Next Fest. Spoiler alert: it’s set to be another hit.

Two Demon Maids and a Metroidvania Twist

Following 2023’s hit Gal Guardians: Demon Purge, Servants of the Dark is back with more enchanting gameplay. Players assume the roles of Kirika and Masha, demon maid sisters on an epic quest. Their mission? Restore the demon lord they dutifully serve. Armed with whips and guns, they hack and blast through 2D levels, facing off against formidable bosses. This game bursts with anime-style characters in maid outfits. Giant women monsters reminiscent of Momodora appear, yet everything stays squarely within the fun and work-safe zone. Had concerns it might be too much? Worry not—it’s all clean fun.

Gameplay: A Metroidvania Classic

The Servants of the Dark demo offers classic Metroidvania action. The game embraces the genre’s tropes with enthusiasm. One sister wields a whip, nodding to Castlevania. The other, a gun, brings a Metroid-like flair. Swappable at any moment, these characters offer varied combat strategies while managing a shared health pool. Collectibles abound—think throwing daggers, deployable spiders, and imposing swords. Gathering and crafting sub-weapons adds a personalized touch, deepening the Gal Guardians legacy.

Kirika and Masha deliver an exhilarating play experience. Their jumps, dodges, and attacks encourage strategy over brute force. Pixel art dazzles with intricately detailed levels, packed with secrets begging to be uncovered.

A Step Beyond and Ready for Launch

As the second installment in this renowned series, Servants of the Dark reflects Inti Creates’ mastery. The studio has further polished its unique style. Among Steam Next Fest demos, this is a standout—poised to make its mark. With a March 26 release, it will be availably broadly on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch platforms.

Also catching my eye at Steam Next Fest is a platformer evoking Banjo-Kazooie and Crash Bandicoot vibes. It features elements like water and lava swapping to creatively challenge players. Innovative, fresh, and thoroughly engaging.

Prepare for new tales and exciting adventures as Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark approaches. Above all, it promises to blend nostalgia with novel twists.
