Mori System in Dead by Daylight Gets a Redesign

Dead by Daylight’s notorious Memento Mori system is set for a revamp. In a bid to get it right, developer Behaviour Interactive is making another tweak, prompting mixed reactions from players.

Changes to the Manic Mori

In its next update, Dead by Daylight is overhauling the Mori system. The erstwhile approach involved Dead by Daylight killer players utilizing Offerings to determine their Mori kill count under specific conditions. The update shifts this paradigm.

Behaviour Interactive will now empower players to use Mori kills only on the final Survivor during a match. Consequently, some players question if the fresh version will truly land its punches.

Upshot of the Update

The revision of the Mori kill system is detailed in the impending Dead by Daylight update. Post this revision, Offerings may become mostly obsolete. While their use for performing Mori kills may wane, hauling in a hefty Bloodpoint bonus is a possible perk.

You just have to ensure the last Survivor is in the dying state. Then, the satisfying finale courtesy of a Mori kill is all yours.

Concerns Over the Change

Understandably, not all players are sold on the change. There are worries that the revamped Mori system may endorse ‘slugging’. That refers to Survivors being left in a dying state rather than following the game’s natural flow, which involves the Survivor being hooked.

Some players also fear the change could spill over into toxicity. This toxicity might manifest through aggravating behaviours, such as the final Survivor being led to the hatch only to be mercilessly Mori-killed, thereby needlessly prolonging the game.

Another concern is the question of why Killer players would even bring a Mori Offering to a match. This concern emerges considering they are guaranteed a Mori toward the end of the match and the omnipresence of Bloodpoints as rewards.

The Bundle of Good News

However, there is a silver lining. One of the best proposed features for the Mori system is becoming a reality. When a Mori kill happens, visual interruptions like crates are phased out, ensuring everyone gets a full view of the glorious killing stroke.

Whether this new feature is a redeeming factor remains to be seen in the discourse of the gaming community.

What You Need to Know Going Forward

The overhaul of the Mori kill system comes into effect with Dead by Daylight’s September update. Keep an eye out for comprehensive patch notes to get clear insight into what the new Mori kills will entail.
