New Updates on ‘Wicked’ Movie: Release Date, Trailer, and More
Written by August Tales
Picture this: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz takes an unexpected twist. Gregory Maguire reshapes L. Frank Baum’s famous story in his 1995 novel, Wicked, shifting the spotlight onto Elphaba, whose life of hardship tragically ends when Dorothy kills her. Fast-forward to 2003, Wicked turned into a musical, ultimately becoming the fourth longest-running Broadway series. And here’s something exciting, Jon M. Chu takes us on a new journey through Oz with a two-part film adaptation.
Mark Your Calendar for Wicked
Initially, Wicked was supposed to hit your screens on November 27. However, now, anticipate its release five days earlier, on November 22.
Peek into the Wicked World
There’s a new trailer out, providing an up-close glimpse into Elphaba’s life. Witness her romance, some pivotal events preceding her death, and a beautifully cinematic version of Oz. Importantly, see the inception of Elphaba and Glinda’s witchy friendship at Shiz University.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande bring Elphaba and Glinda to life, with their distinct backgrounds threatening their growing bond. Their aspirations drive them on diverging paths after a rendezvous with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Glinda’s pursuit of popularity and power contrasts sharply with Elphaba’s staunch determination to stay unbendingly true to herself. These adventures contribute to their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
The Wicked movie trailer echoes its origins and even teases many iconic musical songs that will soon fill theater halls.

Wicked Movie: Behind the Eyes of Cast and Crew
Wicked’s enormous story may rightly justify the decision for two movies. Even though only time can confirm this, one thing is evident: the film’s cast and crew harbor a palpable passion for this project.
Joining the stellar roster alongside Erivo and Grande are Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, and Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz. Additional cast members include Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, and Keala Settle. Recently we learned that Peter Dinklage would voice Dr. Dillamond, a talking goat. Get a first glimpse of the movie in the peek shots below.
Appreciate director Chu’s skill as he guides you through constructing the imaginative world of Oz in the Wicked featurette.
