A Morph in Time: “Power Rangers” Takes On New Dimensions
Ever felt the urge to berate a writer for the dishonorable ending given to your beloved TV character? BOOM! Studios has come up with a rather interesting solution. They’ve opened the floodgates for actors of the “Power Rangers” series to try their hand at penning the destiny of their respective Rangers. Who better to do so than those who donned the Morphin Suits? Power Rangers: Across The Morphin Grid, a gift from BOOM! Studios and game company Hasbro, promises a commemoration of the franchise.
A Line-up as Varied as Their Power Coins
This anthology is no mere assembly of stories but a space created by a veritable cast of favorites from the Power Rangers legacy. Included in the writing team are David Yost, Walter Jones, Steve Cardenas, Mat Groom, Nakia Burrise, JD Sutphin, and Meghan Camerana. Artists Paulina Ganucheau, Tango, Patrick Mulholland, Domo Stanton, and Anand Ramcheron bring their stories to life.
David Yost shared his experience, “A true honor to work with all the talented people at BOOM! Studios and to be asked to write a story based on my character, Billy. I had so much fun imagining where Billy would be at 28 years old. I trust fans will enjoy my story.”
Of Rangers, Stories, and Nostalgia – A Blast Trip to the Morphin Grid
Others like Steve Cardenas and JD Sutphin echoed his enthusiasm. “I’ve had the great privilege in the past to briefly work with BOOM! About Rocky and his background. But now to have the opportunity to create and collab and tell my own story is just a dream come true for me,” Cardenas confessed. Similarly, JD Sutphin pointed out, “the Power Rangers have meant the world to me for over 30 years! To be able to add a little to their world is so truly meaningful and a full circle moment for me.”
Meghan Camarena added intrigue and amusement, teasing about ‘Hyperforce burrito.’ She revealed, “Chloe’s Chaos Kitchen has Chloe, accompanied by Sous Chef Vesper, cooking up some tasty and wild times”. She hoped her writing fills “your hearts and bellies with big, out loud laughs.”
A Preview of the Morphin Grid Reimagined
The anthology features a main cover by Ejikure with variant versions by Riley Rossmo, Goñi Montes, and Matt Taylor. Paulina Ganucheau, one of the artists collaborating on the project, expressed the anticipation felt by many in the team, “Working on this short with Meghan has been pure joy and is such a bucket list project.”
The tales of the Rangers, penned by the actors, will kick-start the grid engines on October 30, 2024. Hold your breath for this, because we could all use a bit of morphin magic in our lives. As for the fans, keep an eye out on BOOM! Studios for further announcements, especially pertaining to the San Diego Comic-Con. Take it from us, you wouldn’t want to miss these.
