Katy O’Brian Rumored to Join ‘The Running Man’ Reboot Cast
Hollywood whispers have it that ‘The Running Man,’ (still in its infancy under director Edgar Wright), is cozying up to Katy O’Brian. This blockbuster-in-waiting, which is a brainchild of Stephen King, may be about to land the delightfully talented actress from ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’ But, hold your applause; O’Brien’s role in this twisted game-show reboot remains under wraps.
From lurking insider shadows emerges the voice of a gossip guru, Daniel Richtman, who suggests that O’Brian could step into the shoes of either of King’s leading ladies from his spine-chilling novel. There’s fiery Sheila Richards, the better half to the main man, Ben Richards, or the captive Amelia, thrown into the den of lions by chance.
While we’re busy naming names, let’s not forget Glen Powell who will grace the screen as Ben Richards. However, this excitement was somewhat dampened with the news that Sydney Sweeney, Powell’s former co-star from ‘Anyone but You,’ won’t be adding her star power to ‘The Running Man.’
The Rebirth of ‘The Running Man’
In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s the skinny on ‘The Running Man.’ This reboot is not the first time King’s 1982 novel has been brought to life. A 1987 adaptation starred none other than Arnie himself, in a hair-raising tale of survival in a dystopian world. The hitch? Evading elite killers on a deadly game show while jeering crowds cheer you on. Sounds like a blast, right?
However, critics sniffed at this version, and the crowds were slow to follow. Still, Glen Powell, the main man of the upcoming reboot, assures fans that the new version will do King’s words justice and sends an invitation for audiences to join in some “outrageous” fun.
Peek into Katy O’Brien’s Script
You might recognize O’Brian from ‘Quantumania,’ the first Phase Five Marvel Cinematic Universe film, where she stole the screen alongside Paul Rudd and the recently retired Evangeline Lilly. Not one to rest on her laurels, this Indie darling also wrangled tornadoes with Powell in the remake of the disaster classic ‘Twister’ and ventured into galaxies far, far away as Imperial Communications Officer Elia Kane in ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian.’ As we speak, she’s on British soil filming for ‘Mission: Impossible 8.’
The release date of this ‘Running Man’ reboot remains as elusive as Ben Richard’s safety on the game show. But don’t worry, you can get your fill of blood-thirsty crowds and a desperate fight for survival by streaming the Schwarzenegger original on Paramount+.
In the words of a certain infamous TV host from ‘The Running Man,’ “Who loves you, and who do you love?” Here’s hoping O’Brian signs on that dotted line and joins the ranks of ‘The Running Man.’ After all, who doesn’t enjoy a little game show chaos?
