Reynolds Reveals Why McElhenney’s Deadpool Cameo Was Cut
Ryan Reynolds has finally shared the reason Rob McElhenney’s cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t make it to the big screen. The decision, though disappointing for fans, wasn’t due to any rivalry between the two stars. Instead, it was a matter of ensuring the film’s narrative flow.
The Wrexham Connection
Reynolds and McElhenney share more than just screen time; they are also co-owners of Wrexham A.F.C. Their camaraderie extends beyond football, into their work in the FX series Welcome to Wrexham. Initially, McElhenney had filmed a cameo as a Time Variance Authority (TVA) agent in the much-anticipated Marvel film. However, despite the initial excitement, the scene was left on the cutting room floor.
Reynolds’ Heartfelt Explanation
Reynolds took to Instagram to explain the tough decision. He wrote, “Rob kindly did a cameo, which we hope will survive in the digital extras.” This was his way of acknowledging the effort McElhenney put into the role, even though it ultimately didn’t fit the final edit. Reynolds humorously lamented the need to “kill your darlings” in filmmaking, acknowledging the difficulty of cutting a friend’s contribution.
A Bromance Uninterrupted
Despite the cut, Reynolds didn’t miss the opportunity to express his appreciation for McElhenney’s effort. He even hinted at future opportunities, saying McElhenney would make an excellent Hydra Bob. This shows that even in the superhero world, bromance and humor endure, no matter the challenges.
