Rogue: Untold Story in The Savage Land

Rogue Returns to Savage Land in New Series

A Blast from the Past: ‘Rogue: The Savage Land’ Miniseries

One of the quintessential moments from the ’90s X-Men saga involved Rogue voyaging through the mystical, mysterious Savage Land. Despite her adventures in this long-lost world making for captivating visuals on-page, they occupied an astonishingly small number of comic spreads. Wipe your worries away, X-Men fans. This overlooked narrative is set to be revisited in a fresh miniseries, Rogue: The Savage Land.

Brushing off the Dust on Rogue’s Adventure

The five-part series anticipates filling the narrative gaps left by Rogue’s wildest journey. The project will be shepherded by Tim Seeley, respected in the Marvel realm for his contributions to Venom War and Wolverine. Zulema Lavina, an alum from the Marvel Art Atelier, brings her first Marvel Comics graphic art to the series. Professor Seeley’s words and Lavina’s artistic strokes promise to revive an under-explored episode of one of the beloved X-Men’s grandest exploits.

Rogue and the Savage Land: A Crucial Connection

Rogue’s sojourn in the Savage Land was intricately woven into the famous X-Men run of Chris Claremont and Jim Lee. She clashed with Carol Danvers, then still Ms. Marvel, in Uncanny X-Men #269. The battle took a drastic turn when Rogue got hurled into a portal to the lost world.

Preparing for Survival in the Savage Land

This unplanned trip to the Savage Land had far-reaching implications for Rogue, which forced her to lean on her instinctive abilities after being stripped of her superpowers. Although her newfound resilience made her less reliant on her powers, the comics shied away from divulging how she survived in that perilous world. Ungrounded speculation continued until Marvel’s Uncanny X-Men #274 indicated her surprising allegiance with Magneto and Ka-Zar. Soon enough, we’ll get a detailed account of her survival journey coupled with a hint of romance with Magneto, something the original series merely teased.

Recounting the thrilling events in ‘Rogue: The Savage Land,’ Tim Seeley revealed his excitement to Polygon saying, “In these five issues, I get to combine my passion for X-Men, Jim Lee, Chris Claremont, Zabu, barely clothed superheroes, and undoubtedly most crucially: dinosaurs.” He expresses his delight in working with Zulema Lavina as they aim to pay homage to the classic tale of Rogue, Magneto, and Ka-Zar whilst injecting fresh elements into the narrative.

Mark your calendars! Rogue: The Savage Land #1 hits comic stores everywhere on January 15, 2025. To say the least, it’s an adventurous throwback X-Men fans won’t want to miss.
