Josh Brolin Rumored for Green Lantern Role in DC Universe
In a world that spins faster on rumors than fact, here’s another juicy gossip from our resident hitmaker, August Tales. Rumblings are suggesting that actor Josh Brolin might shift his allegiance over to the DC Universe. Supposedly, James Gunn, the man behind the upcoming Lanterns TV series, has a fancy for Brolin to fill the boots of Green Lantern Hal Jordan.
The Game of Green Lanterns
Gunn’s Lanterns series, currently under development and set to enter production soon, won’t stay limited to Hal Jordan. John Stewart too will have his day in this narrative. Much ado has been made about the series resembling a terrestrial-based TV show, à la True Detective. Well, imagine two Green Lanterns being interstellar Moorabin each, watching over mother Earth in its entirety.
Chasing the Gossip Trail
The source of this titillating rumor is twofold. The first one has its roots in an unnamed site that previously prophesied Marvel’s Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani being cast as Booster Gold in the DC Universe.
Seizing the baton, Nexus Point News claimed that the Lanterns team offered the role to Brolin, now 56, after contemplating actors in their 40s and 50s. According to them, Brolin, the ruggedly charming Hollywood staple, has emerged as the top choice to helm Jordan’s character.
The site goes a step further, revealing that Gunn’s version of Hal Jordan will depict the Lantern legend as a veteran member of the Corps.
The Double Conundrum of Thanos and Cable
With this news, fans can’t help but wonder about Brolin’s role as Thanos and Cable. Surely, jumping ship to the DC Universe would have an impact. After all, rumors suggest that Brolin might return for Avengers: Secret Wars in his King Thanos avatar.
As for channeling Cable, the sardonic mutant telepath, even though Deadpool name-dropped him in Deadpool & Wolverine, the character’s screen presence remains shrouded in ambiguity.
Here’s the good news, though – thanks to computer-generated imagery (CGI) – Brolin can slide into the dual roles without tripping over himself. After all, Thanos was no flesh and bone, but a confluence of pixel magic. So, Brolin defecting to the DC Universe or even playing King Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Green Lantern in Gunn’s DCU isn’t that far-fetched. The real question is, why not? Why can’t we have him as all three? Who could possibly complain?
