Return of The Russo Brothers

Who better to step into the directorial shoes for the upcoming Avengers 5 and Avengers 6 than the dynamic duo who helmed the past four Marvel extravaganzas? Yes, after what was presumably an exhaustive search with palpable suspense (and they said superhero life was dramatic), Marvel seems ready to pass the directorial baton back to Anthony and Joe Russo. Not confirmed, but it’s Russo Brothers’ coming home season, as indicated by a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

A Recipe for Success

The Russo Brothers are nothing short of Marvel household names, having expertly churned out Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Endgame, all of which radiate an esteemed position in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s box office hall of fame. A high-stakes search indeed, with names like Shawn Levy of Deadpool & Wolverine fame in the mix as potential captain of the next Avengers installment. But perhaps, Marvel prefers the charm of known super-devils over unfamiliar ones in uncertain times.

The Russonian Era…Again?

The Russo Brothers, if reports are true, have a Herculean task ahead in rekindling the Avengers sequels. Remember the one formerly known as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty? It was initially set to shine the spotlight on Jonathan Majors as the time-traveling villain. However, after a rather unsavory development involving a guilty verdict for assault, Majors was politely shown the Marvel door. Now, the original plotline hangs in the balance, and a different antagonist and focus are presumed. As for the title? Avengers, the not-Kang dynasty, perhaps?

Possible Return to Secret Wars?

Interestingly, Avengers 6 was announced as Secret Wars at some point. The Russo Brothers have previously professed a fondness for the related comics. But lest we forget, a mere two years ago, they declared a hiatus of sorts from the Marvel universe. A two-year breather does arguably qualify as “anytime soon,” but counting on Russo Brothers to stay away from Marvel may be like expecting Thor to reject his third mug of beer at a tavern.

Marvel fans, mark the dates in indelible ink. Avengers 5 is anticipated to grace your silver screens on May 1, 2026. A year later, Avengers 7 is slated for release in May 2027. As for whether we have the Russo Brothers to thank (or blame) for what unfolds, we wait with bated breath. Let’s just hope the suspense doesn’t kill us before the villain does.
