Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Joins Spider-Man 4

Destin Daniel Cretton to Direct Spider-Man 4

August Tales

August Tales can confirm that Destin Daniel Cretton is at the helm for Spider-Man 4. Cretton, for the unaware, made a splash in 2013 with his directorial debut, I Am Not a Hipster. He subsequently crafted Short Term 12 the same year, The Glass Castle in 2017, and Just Mercy in 2019. However, it was his oversight of the MCU gem, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021, that really turned heads.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cretton is now set to direct the fourth instalment of Tom Holland’s Marvel Spider-Man series. If you’ve been following the saga, then you know that all three of the previous MCU Spider-Man solo films were Jon Watts’ creations. He directed 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, and 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Fans are excited to see Cretton’s take on the web-slinging hero.

Tumultuous Journey through Marvel

Interestingly enough, Cretton had initially been chosen for another Marvel movie – Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Unfortunately, he parted ways with the project in November 2023. This exit was shortly followed by the dismissal of Kang actor Jonathan Majors by Marvel and a change in directorship of Anthony and Joe Russo. The movie now has a shiny new title – Avengers: Doomsday.

On the flipside, Cretton’s ventures into Marvel’s television world are looking bright. He’s co-creating the anticipated Marvel series Wonder Man, which will feature Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. As if that wasn’t enough, the buzz suggests that a sequel to Shang-Chi is in the pipeline.

Unveiling Marvel’s Spider-Man 4

As eager as we all are for more details on Spider-Man 4, there’s not much to disclose currently. We know that Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are hard at work on the script, and Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are producing. There’s also word that Spider-Man 4 is on a fast track, with shooting to commence early next year.

Sadly, the release date for Spider-Man 4 is under wraps. But in the meantime, fans can continue to enjoy the first three movies in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man series on Disney+.
