Shawn Levy’s Marvelous Future: A Peek into the Marvel Maestro’s Crystal Ball
The man who brought us “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Thor is Crying Over a Fallen Wade Wilson,” a.k.a Shawn Levy, had a chat with Variety that turned the speculation mixer on high speed in the Marvel fandom. The topic? The prospect of Levy diving headlong into another Marvel project.
Donning his Nostradamus hat, Levy revealed, “I don’t know what form my Marvel future will take, but I’m very confident Marvel and I aren’t done with each other.” Cue the sound of fanboys and fangirls fervently flipping through their Marvel encyclopedias trying to guess which character or storyline will be Levy’s next plaything.
Old Rumors and New Speculations
It’s no secret that Levy’s name was once linked to an Avengers movie, but rumors of an impending nuptial between him and earth’s mightiest heroes vanished into thin air at San Diego Comic-Con. As revealed, the Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony for formal introductions) were the chosen ones and ushered to helm “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” scheduled for 2026 and 2027 respectively.
But the mystery of whether or not the upcoming Avengers flicks will reference the heart-wrenching scene from “Deadpool & Wolverine” showing Chris Hemsworth’s Thor sobbing over a fallen Wade Wilson remains to be unwrapped. However, Levy teased, “I’d love to be part of answering that question someday.” Here’s to hoping Levy’s desire to answer that question aligns with the Marvelous higher powers!
Spotlight on Levy’s Directing Palette
Shawn Levy is far from a one-trick Marvel pony. Beyond the hard-hitting “Deadpool & Wolverine” curtain, Levy has a solid track record, sprouting hits that range from stitch-inducing comedies to popcorn-spilling thrillers.
The director’s resume shouts hits like 2002’s “Big Fat Liar,” 2003’s “Cheaper by the Dozen,” 2006’s “The Pink Panther” and “Night at the Museum,” and its 2009 and 2014 follow-ups. Then there’s 2010’s “Date Night” and 2011’s “Real Steel,” not to forget the recent 2021’s “Free Guy” and 2022’s “The Adam Project.”
While his hands are deep in the dough of the fifth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Levy is now stirring up a cinematic offering for Lucasfilm’s Star Wars universe. The saga, not-so-far-far-away, currently has no official premiere date but has the fans’ curiosity on the rise.
So, here’s to Shawn Levy, who, from the looks of it, is quite confident about his Marvel future, even if it’s still a tantalizing mystery. One thing’s for sure, though—the Marvel project that does ensnare him will be another treat to watch out for!
