New York City’s cloudscapes will once again be crossed by a familiar figure this Thanksgiving. After a decade-long absence, one of the crowd favorites of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Spider-Man, will make his much-anticipated return. The monumental airborne attraction, inspired by the iconic designs of legendary artist John Romita Sr, is all set to needle through the Manhattan skyscrapers.

“There’s no place like home,” Chris Fondacaro, Head of Marvel Franchise, expressed this sentiment. Debuted in 1939, Marvel Comics has always considered New York its mainstay. Fondacaro added, “When Macy’s offered us a chance to reunite our beloved superhero with this iconic event, we instantly recognized the synergy between Spidey and our brand’s heritage.”

Spider-Man Returns to Macy’s Parade, the Crowd Delights

Gearing up for an epic comeback doesn’t stop at Spider-Man himself. Jordan Dabby, producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, expressed his excitement about this endeavor. He captured our excitement by saying: “Seeing everyone’s favorite web-slinger back in action at the parade will be simply delightful. Spider-Man and the Macy’s Parade, both, stand as true symbols of the Big Apple.”

Marvel/Macy’s Parade Tradition Continues: A New Spider-Man Balloon

The bond between Marvel Comics and Macy’s Parade isn’t new. The history is rich, curling back to several decades just like Spider-Man’s iconic webs. With Spider-Man holding the central role in the Marvel universe, the parade has seen his appearances time and again.

Back in 1981, the web-slinger first appeared in the parade when actor Scott Leva took the parade route with acrobatic stands and poses. The Spider-Man balloon got its premiere in 1987. It soared over Manhattan every year until its retirement in 1998.

In 2009, a new rendition of our favorite superhero arrived, boasting a more modern appearance inspired by recent film adaptations. However, this iteration retired in 2014 too, leaving a decade-long absence of the web-slinger from the parade.

Marvel, Macy’s Parade, and Spider-Man: A Triumvirate Returns

Excitement for Spider-Man’s comeback isn’t confined to the streets of New York City. The 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is scheduled for Thursday, November 28, 2024. Even fans away from the city will be able to catch a glimpse of Spider-Man. It’ll air exclusively in the United States on NBC and stream on Peacock.

Just like a Spider-Man comic book, this year’s parade is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats, eyes on the sky, waiting for a glance of their favorite superhero.
