Superman & Lois Unveils a Surprising Twist

A Fresh Twist in Smallville: Iconic Characters Surface in Superman & Lois

As the curtains draw on the fourth season of Superman & Lois, fans are abuzz. Even though it’s nearing the finale on The CW, the series isn’t done unveiling surprises, especially with iconic DC characters making unexpected appearances. This week’s episode, titled "Sharp Dressed Man," delivered a bold punch with a special casting. The Flash’s Tom Cavanagh stepped into the spotlight, portraying the character Godfrey, shaking things up for viewers.

A Deeper Dive into Familiar Territory

But Cavanagh’s Godfrey wasn’t the only surprise. Another fan-favorite character finally emerged, meeting the audience’s anticipation head-on. This season, Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz) sought technological help in his ongoing struggle against Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Clark (Tyler Hoechlin). Enter Milton Fine, a man whose brainy tech skills are nothing short of legendary. Portrayed by Riverdale’s Nikolai Witschl, Milton has been crucial in Luthor’s sinister ventures. Not just a tech whiz, Milton crafted devices to encage Superman’s heart and tampered with Steel and Starlight’s suits.

Amanda McCoy (Yvonne Chapman) affectionately calls him a "brainiac", a nod not lost on comic aficionados. Comics reveal Milton Fine as a version of Brainiac — a metahuman tapping into psychic realms, believing it’s the disembodied mind of scientist Vril Dox. This assumption leads to a transformation that aligns with his comic roots.

Surprise, Surprise: Showrunners Caught Off Guard

Including Brainiac seemed improbable to many, including the show’s creators, Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher. Reflecting on this revelation, they admitted their surprise at bringing such a character to life on screen. Early in the year, they teased the inclusion of a significant comic figure, though identities remained under wraps. "You hear the name drop, then see it unfold," they hinted cryptically.

This aptly echoes Milton’s season-long introduction. Fans now wonder if Milton’s story will evolve further in the remaining episodes. Will he fully transform into Brainiac, or continue aiding Luthor’s nefarious plans against the Kents? With just two episodes left, the suspense now holds viewers on the edge.

Cementing its spot in the Monday night lineup, Superman & Lois airs at 8 p.m. ET on The CW, promising more thrilling developments as it barrels toward its season conclusion.
