Tatiana Maslany Teases Her Next Role

Tatiana Maslany and Osgood Perkins: A Horror Collaboration Like No Other

In an industry teeming with the predictable, Tatiana Maslany and director Osgood Perkins are shaking up the horror scene. Their latest, a chilling flick called Keeper, is set to debut soon. It marks a thrilling continuation of their creative partnership following their mysterious project, The Monkey.

The Teaser Unveiled: Keeper

Keeper’s first teaser emerges as a post-credits surprise in Perkins’ recent release, Longlegs. Maslany, famed for her role in She-Hulk, assures fans that this project diverges sharply from any previous collaborations with Perkins. "Oz’s work never conforms to expectations," she states. This unpredictable style is why she feels so drawn to his films. Each movie, including Longlegs, The Monkey, and Keeper, boasts distinct stories and tones. Yet, they share core themes, exploring inherited trauma and the unknowability of death in surreal scenarios.

"But I’m yet to see it," Maslany chuckles, reflecting on filming Keeper. Despite its grave tone, she recalls a hint of mischief common to Perkins’ films. The story unfolds with Maslany alongside Rossif Sutherland as Liz and Malcolm, a couple isolated in a remote cabin. When Malcolm is unexpectedly called away, Liz stumbles upon an evil presence lurking in their getaway.

Crafting a Unique Horror Experience

Shooting Keeper marked Maslany’s first collaboration with Perkins. She fondly remembers feeling in capable hands due to his unique tonal dexterity. "Oz views the world through a peculiar lens," Maslany explains. This vision attracted a talented crew, enhancing the film’s eclectic nature. The script for The Monkey, another of their ventures, captivated her with its mix of humor and horror, reminiscent of classics like Shaun of the Dead.

The Monkey, featuring stars like Rohan Campbell and Theo James, spins its own eerie tale. Twin brothers embark on a revenge mission, haunted by a cursed childhood toy that spells death in its wake. According to Maslany, Perkins envisioned her character, Lois, as the emotional core of the narrative. Through Lois, the film confronts the randomness and unfairness of death.

Balancing Humor and Horror

Gore and humor intertwine seamlessly in The Monkey, yet beneath lurks a sobering message. Life is fleeting, and each breath should be savored. The script’s lightheartedness meant improv wasn’t paramount for Maslany’s role. "Lois was crafted so cleanly—I wanted to honor it," she notes. Dancing through darkness, Maslany’s character embodies a resilient spirit, staring death in the face and choosing survival.

Both films are eagerly awaited, with The Monkey set for a February 21 release, and Keeper expected on October 3. As horror fans anticipate these debuts, they are reminded of Perkins’ ability to merge the bizarre with the profound, creating narratives that linger long after the credits roll. This collaboration between Maslany and Perkins promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats, redefining the boundaries of horror cinema.
