Amazon Prime’s ‘The Boys’ to End with Season 5, Cast Shares Thoughts
The tremors of anxiety and anticipation are already being felt among the fervent fanbase of the well-regarded Amazon Prime Video series “The Boys”, as the cast reluctantly prepares to tip their proverbial hats goodbye after the show’s much-awaited fifth season. In the midst of summer 2024, perched amidst a milieu of gripping finales and sequels, the announcement of the series’ termination was made—the fifth season of “The Boys” would be the show’s swan song. The unique concoction of wit and action of this Amazon Prime spectacle was the brainchild of Eric Kripke and boasted an ensemble cast including Antony Starr, aka Homelander; Jack Quaid, fondly known as Hughie Campbell Jr., and everyone’s favorite vigilante, Billy Butcher, flawlessly executed by Karl Urban.
A plethora of emotions ensue as the scent of the series’ term concludes creeps in closer. The cast shared their mixed feelings of relief and regret in a poignant conversation with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
“We had been in the know for quite a while,” mentioned Colby Minifie, the lively actress who portrays Ashley Barrett. Her statement was more of a solemn whisper, reflecting the melancholic air surrounding the news.
Turning the melancholy into a slightly more optimistic note, the charismatic Starr waxed eloquently, “The show has had a fantastic run. One of the biggest accomplishments, at least, in my perspective, is bidding adieu on a high note. Nothing is more disheartening than spoiling the final impression with a subpar season. Unfortunately, I had the displeasure of experiencing such a disastrous end with a previous project. It’s rattling, to say the least. My earnest hope is to leave behind a legacy that everyone associated with the show, right from the corporate big shots at Amazon, Vought, down to the artistic teams of our make-up artists and lunch-time gurus, will proudly look back at.”
The wish-list for the ending does not stop there. Laz Alonso, known for breathing life into the character of Marvin T. “Mother’s” Milk/M.M., has been fervently advocating for a uniquely memorable closure for the series. He audaciously proposed a feature film finale for the series to their showrunner, Erik. “Imagine the thrill of announcing the feature film as the series’s grand finale, leaving us on the edge of our seats with a poignant cliffhanger,” Alonso said enthusiastically. When asked about the probability of his idea converting into reality, he replied, “Erik is a master of slipping out of that conversation!”
For those who are jonesing for their “The Boys” fix, rest assured that Amazon Prime Video has made available the first six episodes of Season 4, along with the entire Seasons 1-3. You can also set your alarm for the upcoming 11th July release of the following episode and the cherry on top — the season finale airing on 18th July.
As for what’s percolating in the pipeline and when we will be treated to the first episode of Season 5, the curtains remain gracefully drawn. The wait is as palpable as an actor standing in the wings, anticipating their entrance cue. Let’s prepare ourselves for a grand, hopefully not the final, spectacle.
