Snow White Live-Action Trailer Faces Backlash and High Dislikes
Disney’s decision to push back the movie’s release by a year, coupled with the Snow White lead, Rachel Zegler, shooting off some unsavory remarks about the fairytale, apparently didn’t do the promotion any favors. Charming as it may sound, she reportedly holds the original animated movie in low regard and views its Prince as a bit of a creepy stalker.
When Comments Snowball
The CGI, or rather the lack of practical effects, seemed to be the biggest culprit in the eyes of the miffed online community. “No dwarves were hired during the making of our film,” complains one popular comment, summing up a common sentiment that found its way into the comments section. While this fan called for respect for the vertically challenged, another astutely observed that: “They remade another animated movie into another animated movie.”
Some fans offered critiques that were intense enough to melt the winter wonderland that the trailer promises. “The fact that they didn’t cast real dwarfs for a live action Snow White remake is just mind-blowing. Why not just do the whole thing in CGI?” Sure, dwarfs, apple poisoned princesses, and creepy stalker princes – might as well animate it all!
In classic dry humor flavor, another stated, “They put more effort in CGI than Snow White dress Looks like a costume for a kid party.”
Trailer Highlights
A few shots into the trailer and phrases like “live action” start to lose their intended meaning. As one quip from a viewer put it: “The opening shot was 95% CGI… why can’t they use practical effects and CGI only if necessary? That cottage looks too polished.” Why indeed, my friend, why indeed.
“Paving” the way for future dwarf actors, a fan ironically pulls a line from Peter Dinklage’s playbook, “Peter Dinklage climbed the ladder then proceeded to kick it out from underneath him so no other dwarf actor or actress could follow him.”
Presumably lacking amusement, one viewer exclaimed, “I’ve never seen a company try so hard to destroy itself. There’s been some one-offs, but Disney is more committed than a marathon runner. Fan sentiment and stock price be damned,”. A bold statement indeed, but then, this is YouTube comments we’re talking about here folks, subtlety was never their strong suit.
Ultimately, it’s safe to say that Disney’s live-action trailblazing comes with its fair share of thorns – or in this case, disgruntled YouTube commentators. So, until the dust settles, the question remains: will Snow White find redemption in the heart of her audience, or will she remain trapped in this virtual tower of discontent?
