When They Saw Hugh Jackman, Grown Men Burst Into Tears…

20 Years of Wolverine Sans Signature Costume

In the two-decade span that Hugh Jackman has portrayed Wolverine in multiple X-Men films for Fox, he has entertained us with a multifaceted character. From battling mutants and making cameos to time-traveling, participating in countless history-altering wars, to getting shot in the noggin with an amnesia bullet, Jackman’s Wolverine has done it all. All, except for sporting the legendary yellow and blue costume that Wolverine is synonymous with.

Jackman’s Wolverine is remembered for many things, but not for donning the signature superhero garb, despite its debut in “The Wolverine.” However, Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” finally granted us the highly anticipated sight of Jackman suited up in the iconic yellow and blue.

Jackman Suits Up: An Emotional Affair

In an interview with HeyUGuys, the executive producer of “Deadpool & Wolverine” expressed how memorable it was seeing Jackman don the Wolverine costume for the first time. It was such a monumental moment that even the most cynical Hollywood crew members couldn’t help but tear up. She explained, “To see both of those guys, first of all, in costume together was just mind-blowing, but Hugh walking out in the yellow and blue, I mean, there were grown men, like, sobbing on set.”

As fans, while we may not have wept at the sight of Jackman in the legendary attire, we can certainly admit that he looked striking in it. It is simply ludicrous that Jackman portrayed Wolverine in seven movies (plus cameos!) without ever wearing the suit. The early X-Men movies had their high points, but their peculiar resistance to put the characters in superhero costumes was a curious decision, to say the least. One may argue this stems from directors’ reluctance to embrace the full comic book aesthetic.

Calling All Wolverine Fans

Clear your schedules for next Friday, July 26, as “Deadpool & Wolverine” finally hits theaters. Let’s raise a toast to the unforgettable expectancy and excitement around Jackman’s grand debut in Wolverine’s signature costume!

As we walk down memory lane, let’s take a glance at the Fox X-Men franchise that spanned two decades, gifted us 13 movies, and a slew of moments we’d rather erase from our memory. From the highs of “X2” to the lows of “Dark Phoenix,” the franchise has been a rollercoaster. But now, seeing Jackman in the yellow and blue suit, it feels like a fitting tribute to the character’s legacy.
